Divide dough into pieces. Flatten each piece and wrap in plastic. Refrigerate until chilled. For the filling: Preheat oven to 375°F. In saucepan, combine cherry juice, sugar, and cornstarch. For the filling: Preheat oven to 450°F. In a large saucepan, stir together ¼ cup sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add cherry juice. Cook this mixture over medium heat, bring to a boil, and continue stirring until thick. Then add the rest of the sugar, stirring and cooking for 2 to 3 minutes more. Remove from heat and add the butter, lemon juice, almond extract, red food coloring, and drained cherries.
Continue with rows of leaves until filling is covered. Place tiny balls of dough in center. Brush lightly with half and half. Bake at 400°F for 10 minutes, then 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown.
